Tau Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was chartered on December 12, 1992 in Hamden, Connecticut under the leadership of Former North Atlantic Regional Director Erma W. Barron. Realizing there was a need for leadership, service, fortitude and sisterhood in the greater Hamden, Connecticut area the chartering members of Tau Xi Omega worked tirelessly to bring the presence of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority to the area.
Tau Xi Omega's current events are donating socks, underclothes and sanitizing products to Columbus House and the Keefe Center in Hamden, Connecticut. We participate with "Pink Goes Red" for Heart Health by providing a free exercise class, blood pressure screenings and heart healthy snacks. We also participate in walking for Ovarian and Breast Cancer Walk/Awareness and a host of other events.
Tau Xi Omega's past events has been sponsoring Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America, Little League Baseball and Soap Box Derby Racing to show support for the community’s youth. The chapter has participated in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Orientation Program, the adoption of The Connecticut Afro American Historical Society (CAAHS), Habitat for Humanity, numerous food drives and has collaborated with the Christian Community Action Agency.
